How Do Bees Make Honey?

There are 20,000 plus types of bees but only honey bees make honey. Bees work together to make honey.

 A female worker bee sucks nectar with a proboscis then she stores it into her honey stomach. At the hive, hive bees suck up the nectar and slowly split it into two sugars called glucose and fructose.

After they turn it into two sugars they put it into hexagonal cells. Then bees flap their wings to control the temperature of the hive.

The bees put wax over the cells to stop honey dripping out. The beekeeper takes out the cells and cuts off the wax. Then it is put into a machine that spins really fast so that the honey drips out.

All this makes thick yummy honey to put on your toast with no added ingredients. Bees work hard to make honey.

Honey is made by bees.  They work together.

Honey bees collect nectar from all the flowers they suck it up with there proboscis and it is stored in their stomach. 

At the hive, a hive bee comes and sucks the nectar out and puts it in a hexagon cell. The bees wings flap to evaporate the water in the cells. 

People need bees to make food for us to enjoy.

The honey bee collects the nectar from each  flower and sucks  it up with a proboscis  then stores it in a honey stomach.

When the bee  returns to the hive each bee spits out the honey and another bee sucks it up and puts it into a hexagonal cell. Then the bee puts wax over top to keep it in.

A beekeeper uses a knife to get the wax off.  The honey drips into an extractor and spits it into the bottom of the extractor to get out and put into a jar ready to put on our toast.

Today we had to look at an explanations in groups and show what we know, by identifying the structure of an explanation (What are the parts of an explanation?).  Yesterday we read lots of explanations and looked at some power points so we had an understanding of what we needed to find.  We found out there are 2 types of explanations- How things work? and Why things happen?.  We found a title (question), an introduction (big ideas), paragraphs in sequence with information, cause & effect ( complex sentences), connectives, present tense (now), specific nouns about the subject eg honey-stomach, drone, descriptive verbs eg evaporates, technical words eg enzymes and a conclusion (summarise what the explanation is about).
