Experience Gravity Free Water
This group's reading activity was to fill a glass right to the top with water, then place a piece of cardboard over the mouth of the glass, making sure that no air bubbles entered the glass.
Then holding the piece of cardboard, they turned the glass upside down and took away the hand holding the cardboard.
Look what happened
The cardboard and the water stayed put even though the cup of water was upside down. Some of us had to have a few attempts to get it to work.
So Why Did This Happen?
With no air inside the glass, the air pressure from the outside of the glass is greater than the presure of the water inside the glass. The extra air pressure manages to hold the cardboard in place, keeping us dry and the water where it should be, inside the glass.

What is a digital footprint?
A digital footprint means the the trail, traces or "footprints" that you leave online.
Every time you go online you leave a trail. The information we put online leaves a digital footprint or “trail.” This trail can be big or small, helpful or hurtful, depending on how you manage it.
Get mum or dad to help you to have a look in the history section of your website browser and see the websites you have visited in the past.
Remember to have a SMART attitude about your digital footprint.

Stem & Leaf Graph of Birthdays in Room 16
Private & Personal Information
We learnt that personal information is usually safe to share online. Private information is usually unsafe to share online.
We had to fill in an 'All About Me' sheet they decide what information would be safe to put online and what would be unsafe. Cyber Safety Posters in Room 14

We are beginning to create stem and leaf graphs. These can be a bit tricky to understand. Click on the image below to watch a short video which may help with your understanding.
Digital Citizenship - Rings of Responsibility
We began exploring some of the everyday responsibilities we have to ourselves, family and friends and to the larger community, both offline and online through the Rings of Responsibility.
We reflected on our offline responsibilities, began to look at our online responsibilities and that good digital citizens are responsible and respectful in the digital world (and beyond).

- Self: The center ring has to do with responsibilities students have to themselves, such as keeping themselves safe and healthy, and protecting their reputations.
- Friends and Family: The middle ring stands for responsibilities students have to their friends and family, such as helping with chores, attending their performances, or just listening to them when they are having problems.
- Larger Community: The outer ring stands for responsibilities to the larger community, from following rules at school to playing safely at the playground.
Below are some photos of us practicing categorising the following statements into the three rings. Where would you put them?
- I post my opinions respectfully
- I protect my passwords
- I get permission to post photos of others
- I keep my private information private
- I stand up to cyber bullying
- I give credit for information I find online

Group Work: Writing our Treaty
Today we wrote our class treaty after learning about the 'Treaty of Waitangi' and reading a book called 'The Tree House Treaty'. We discussed why we need a treaty and then got into groups to write rules that we thought were important in our home room and pod. There were so many rules, too many to remember, so we classified these under headings. And all our rules fitted into one or more of the groupings.
Here is our Te Titiri.
1. Be kind to others
2. Keep your hands and feet to yourself
3. Know the right thing to do, and do it
4. Look after our school environment
5. Leave valuable and precious things at home
6. Follow directions straight away
