Rights & Responsibilities
We had a discussion about what we want our class to be like this year, so we can all get the most out of our time at school and have fun! We also discussed what our responsibilities are so we can achieve this.
Britto Mixed Media
Stage One: Background & Assembling
Today we began our art work for the Wanaka A & P Show. We printed 4 coloured squares each ready to assemble tomorrow. Tomorrow we will glue them onto a square piece of paper. Our next step is to draw a Britto inspired cat, parrot or heart.
Our WALTs are...

Physical Education - Throwing & Catching Skills
On Friday we began our skill sessions for throwing & catching a small ball. We will add some photos this week. We have some children with excellent throwing and catching skills. These children become our models to demonstrate to the class. We followed our skills session with a game where we got to practise the skills. The game was called 'Spring Cleaning'. We stopped the game at different times so that we could discuss how we were going, and how we could adapt the rules to make it better to play, as well as fairer for all.
If you want to help at home, here are the preparation, propulsion and follow through steps for the overarm throw, and the catching steps as well.
Overarm Throw
- Stands side on to direction of throw
- Throwing arm moves in a downward and backward arc
- Opposite foot to throwing arm steps forward
- Hips then shoulders rotate forward
- Elbow bends as throwing arm moves behind head
- Forearm and hand lag behind upper arm
- Throwing arm follows through across body
Catching
- Arms straight in front until ball contact, then scooping action to chest - feet stationary
- Ball is "hugged" to chest- feet are stationary or may take one step
- Arms "scoop" under ball, single step may be used to approach ball
- Catch with hands only. Feet stationary or limited to one step (make birds nest to catch ball in)
- Catch with hands only and let arms drop while body moves through space
Daisy & Bonnie's Game
Sara inspired Daisy and Bonnie so they decided to design a game. They used their 'fast finisher' time to work on this. They presented it to the whole class. Well done!
Sara's Game
It is always rewarding to see students doing extra work at home. Well done Sara, we loved your game. Very creative. We can'ts wait to play it this week.

Check out our writing.
We have been learning to...
Paint
a picture, with our words
The waves were
throwing themselves all over me like crashing vases. Ben
Ducks drifting over the waves, little waves rushing out of the motor. I am smashing into the hard concrete water. Lucia
Grass swaying, fish
jumping, I could tell it was going to be a great day. Hudson
The icy water is waiting for me to jump into. I closed my eyes and just jumped in! My feet were numb and my lips were purple. I couldn’t believe I was actually in the water. Daisy
I was so sweaty and
there was a haze in front me… Otis
The boat was
zooming past the mountains, within a flash the boat was past Ruby Island. Bonnie
Puffing, I drag my
feet the sun beams right down on me.
Sarah
My hands are slipping
and sliding over the giant rainbow trout's scales. The sun is glistening on me, I feel like I am
melting in an oven. Ryan
The boats were
zooming past. The water was smashing
into my legs. Finn
The waterslide
sounded like a waterfall. It was twisty
like a snake. Ethan
I jumped inside the
wake. I motored across the wake. Rocco
Water showering my
knees as water drifted across the surface.
The smell of burnt petrol rises from the engine. Rylan
The grey rocks
glowed like ghosts as they lay on the damp wet ground. Zoe
My tounge sticks
out in a flash! I start to lick my yummy
choc bar. The cold ice cream is starting to melt in my mouth. Mila
The crystal clear
lake was in front of eyes. The sun is
burning my arms. Olivia
The huge jaggered
mountains were packed with falling snow.
My hands were shaking and my toes were turning blue. Jaime
Come and in see our writing books in class to read the whole piece of writing!!

Art Self Assessment - Art & Me!
Today we assessed our art work. This assessment included how we feel about art and how good we think we are. What a lot of budding artists we have! We also did a 2 stars and a wish self assessment about our Picasso Faces. This is all about what we did well or what we were most proud of. The wish part is all about what we can improve on next time. Assessment is about reviewing and reflecting on our work. A great art unit. We're so proud of everyone.
Values Bar Graph
In Room 16 we have been learning about all sorts of different graphs. Today we created a values bar graph. These are the values that we all believe are important in our class.
Wow! We are going to have a super year !!!
